My hand

As I hold my phone
My hand trembles a little
I know the reason
I don’t necessarily like the reason
Most people don’t notice it
It doesn’t happen all the time
Like when I write
Or hold other things
Maybe this is a message
That I’m on my phone too much
But this trembling is caused by the medication I take
Medication that helps me stay healthy, happy and productive
Is this a big price to pay?
Perhaps not
But it does bother me sometimes
After all, I have feelings too
I’m not a machine
My goal though is to be grateful always

Reaching out

The desire to communicate has always been strong in me

Communicating what I think and feel

Things that are not that unique

Things that are relatable 

Things others may have experienced as well

Or putting things in new ways

Sharing something they might not have paid attention to

The desire to reach out has always been strong

The need to create links with others 

Connect the hearts

Create a sense of unity 

Create bonds with shared realities

Celebrate life 

Reflect on the sad times

And share the lessons learned

I just realized I’ve been posting poems on this blog for ten years. How the time flies. I’m grateful to have discovered the gift of writing at this point in my life. It centres me, it nourishes me, it helps me process my thoughts and feelings, and I hope my writings bring joy to those who read them. It is important for all of us to identify what we are passionate about and peruse that and if that passion is in a creative field, even better. The arts are expressions of our souls and as such they will touch the souls of others. I wish you a wonderful year and I hope you will pursue your passion as well.

Waves

Emotions like waves come to the shore

With noise and fury that lessons gradually

Until they arrive at the shore line and there is a semblance of calm

Before another wave comes 

And so on

I feel these waves intensely

They bring me joy and

They bring me heartache

Sometimes the heartaches catch me by surprise

The rush of the wave is unexpected

But calm return eventually

And these waves of emotions

Continue to come to shore

As long as we love 

And as long as we live

When a negative thought comes to mind

Think of three positive ones

When you feel disappointed

Think of what you’re grateful for

When things don’t go your way

Remember you don’t always know best

When your are overwhelmed

Take a deep breath

Our days are full of ups and downs

We can’t be happy all the time

But we can be content

We can be calm

That’s in our own hands

Though somethings are not

Our attitude determines our point of view

Our point of view, how we feel

We can wallow in the valley of sadness

Or, we can move through it

Our present, future and past

 

Lively conversations

Ones which leave me heard and understood

Ones that guide me and help me develop my plans

 

These are the kind of conversations

There are times in our lives
That the intensity of our emotions
Overwhelms us
We feel deeply
We yearn passionately
We hurt intensely
We miss others badly

These powerful emotions
Sometimes bring us to our knees
We want to get out of the whirlwind
But we can’t
We feel the same feeling over and over
And it hurts

And at the same time
These are times that we feel most alive

The waves created by our emotions
Keep crashing against the cliff of our spirit
But in the end
Our spirit makes it through
It survives another storm
And arrives at a place of calm

I wonder where my feelings would go
If I didn’t write
I think the’d be all bottled up

Emotions swirl in my heart
I feel them strongly most times

They need a release
Somewhere to go
So, as words on paper
They flow

That brings me a sense of peace
I feel less distressed
More at ease

Writing my solace
My intimate friend

One who’s alway ready
To listen

Heartache

There is a little ache in my heart
Sometimes I try to ignore it
Sometimes I give it attention and acknowledge it
Sometimes a few tears fall from my eyes

Heartache has no cure
It needs to take its course
Medicine can’t help
Neither can herbs nor potions

I’ll stay with you heartache
Till you’ve been satisfied
That you’ve made your presence known
You’re not something I can ignore or avoid

Sometimes you just have to sit with the feelings you feel

They can’t be explained or reasoned out

They can’t be banished from your mind

They can’t be ignored

The only thing you can do is accept them

You have to walk through them, not around them
