My Books of Poetry

This book is a collection of poems on my journey of understanding and learning to cope with Seasonal Affective Disorder or Winter Depression.  I wrote the book in order to shed light on a problem that needs to be discussed more openly.  Depression is pervasive in our communities, yet we chose not to speak about it.  Although the stigma associated with depression is decreasing, a lot of work needs to be done in this area still.

I hope that my book will help others to better understand depression and show that it is possible to find a path to healing.  In my case, building authentic friendships, reaching out to my friends and writing were some of the things that were helpful to me. I hope that works like this will enable us to speak more openly about depression and other mood disorders so that those who encounter them can confidently seek help and feel better. I also hope that family members and friends of those who experience depression, will know better what can be helpful in these situations and realize that they have a very important role to play.

If you happen to live in the Montreal area, my book is now in the Kirkland Library, the Baie-D’Urfe  library and the Île-Perrot library.

In this book, I tell my story as an immigrant and my struggles with identity and belonging.  I share my journey from being confused as to where I belong and who accepts me, to an understanding that helped me feel at home wherever I am and appreciate my heritage more as well.
