I just realized I’ve been posting poems on this blog for ten years. How the time flies. I’m grateful to have discovered the gift of writing at this point in my life. It centres me, it nourishes me, it helps me process my thoughts and feelings, and I hope my writings bring joy to those who read them. It is important for all of us to identify what we are passionate about and peruse that and if that passion is in a creative field, even better. The arts are expressions of our souls and as such they will touch the souls of others. I wish you a wonderful year and I hope you will pursue your passion as well.

Success is in achieving one’s goals

It’s not living our lives based on what is expected of us

Or what society dictates

The goals we set are meaningful to us

They are usually based on what our talents are

What’s important to us

What we’re passionate about

We don’t have similar goals

We are all different people with different aspirations

I set some goals for myself early in life

Some other goals evolved along the way

I’ve been working towards achieving them

My goals may be unconventional

Unusual and not the norm

But they are my goals

They bring me pleasure 

And give my life meaning

I’m learning to be content with my chosen path

When passion dies

IMG_7283Yes, one feels helpless and sad
One feels out of control of one’s emotions
One feels weary and anxious
But the worst part is that passion dies…
One’s zest for life
One’s zeal to start projects and carry them through
One’s energetic nature and optimistic way of thinking
All of these things fall by the wayside

And when I see someone speaking passionately about a subject they are invested in
I wonder why they can do that and not I

I wonder where my energy and fervor went
Where my desire to create and build something new went
Where my joy of being productive went

And I mourn the loss of passion

The flame within

What is it that ignites your passion?
What is it that makes your heart sing?
What is it that brightens your day?
What is it that awakens your senses?

We start searching for our passion
When we are young
Sometimes we recognize it right away
Sometimes we find it but we forget
Sometimes we don’t pay it enough attention

But this discovery is important
Without discovering one’s passion
There is no joy
No motivation
No ziel and enthusiasm
No direction

Without discovering one’s passion
We’ll live ordinary lives
We’ll mark time
We’ll go through the motions of life

But as soon as we discover
What ignites that fire within us
The world begins to sing
The colors seem brighter and
One’s energy expands

It’s then that we can create beauty
Promote harmony
Make new discoveries
Develop our gifts
And serve our fellow man

That little flame is so powerful
It can start wild fires

New territory!

When we are in new territory we make ‘mistakes’
But they are not really mistakes
They are attempts at discovery
The first attempt often does not give result
That one succeeds who doesn’t give up!

Einstein said, “I’m like others, but I stayed
with the problem longer”
And what is it that makes us stay and not give up

Part of it is the passion we have for something
The passion that makes us forge ahead despite disappointments
Part of it is being stubborn and persistent
Not allowing one failure to bring us to a halt
Part of it is the conviction that results will come
Part of it is realising that anything worth achieving
Takes effort and time!

The caged bird is finally free
Your spirit can soar and circle around!
Come here, circle around me!

Give me your courage and optimism
Give me your passion to create
Let me be helpful to others
Let go of ego, let go of fear

Like you, I have cried many times
Like you, I have laughed a lot
I have walked in shadow, walked in the sun
I’ve been drenched in rain many times

My friends and loved ones
Have been my solace
The beauty of art has saved me!
The spirit world where my mind likes to roam
Has been a source of consolation to me!

From wherever you are
Come around once in a while
Bring me inspiration, and good cheer

Passion

Oh, to be passionate about something!
Oh, to have found that something!
You will hear the birds sing!
You will see the sun shine!
You will smile a radiant smile!
You will know why you’re alive!

It took me a while
To find that something
The clues were there
From the time I was young
But it took a while
For the fire of passion to ignite

I’d see a little spark here
A little spark there
And as they were nurtured over the years
A few fanned into flames

I felt the warmth
It saw the light
It felt love
And the night became bright

Things I’m passionate about make me smile
Make my heart sing
They are things I can’t do without

Now, I try to keep fanning the flames
Because there is nothing more beautiful
Than seeing this bon fire burn
