Bird song

I open the window one early morning

The silence of the home is broken by bird song

It’s a symphony

It feels urgent

This beautiful orchestra

The birds give the news of the break of dawn

They remind me of the beauty of the creation of God

Nature has a way of waking up one’s soul

Nature, calming and inspiring at once

Post traumatic growth

As quarantine rules loosen

We are still left with the remnants

No shaking hands or hugs

No big gatherings where you can sing and talk

Travelling is much different than before

Shopping with masks on seems odd

But we are the masked people for now

Whether we like it or not

And keeping two meters away is what I’ll try to do

But it’s so cold and unfriendly too

the challenging part is that there’s no end in sight

We will have to live like this for months

Something I thought was temporary

Has become a way of life

No use to pine after the life that was

The only choice we have now is to adapt

And accept that this is what it is for now

These are extraordinary times

Ones for the history books

All I hope is that when it’s done

We’ll have experienced some post-traumatic growth

Covid

Our world is being held hostage by a microscopic parasite

Our world, the one we didn’t take good care of

Our world, where we were busy running around

Our world, in which material things meant so much

Covid will be with us for a while

The lessons we need to learn take time

We thought we had everything under control

We didn’t realize how fragile we are

The morning team

image

Every morning they are present

Choosing and sharing poetry with us

Poetry written by the old masters

Poetry to delight the heart

And then add to this poetry the

Amazing art of hieroglyph

They do it so well that it seems easy

But this is not a job for the faint of heart

And there is the back and forth

The teasing and the jabbing

The humour and the laughter

And as if that’s not enough

Poems are written on the spot

Following the rhyming scheme of the ones being shared

Then someone else joins in

And the number of poets increases

The result is wonderful poetry

Demonstration of wit and talent and knowledge

And conversations that are quite funny

The morning poetry team

Has evolved over the years

The task has become more complex and demanding

And yet, our friends rise to the occasion everyday

This amazing effort

Requires love and commitment

One that brings us joy and delight and laughter

One we should not take for granted

The embrace

EF60F103-C125-4910-ACD3-7167727A64A0

Layers of deep purple, soft light blue and dreamy orange paint the sky this evening

In the forefront, two trees have reached out to each other, their branches entangled in a warm embrace

This beautiful scene makes me think that we all need this kind of connection

It looks right

It feels right

It depicts love

And I smile as I keep staring at this beautiful sight

Going against the current is not easy

But when was anything worthwhile attained easily?

When the vision is there

The desire is there

The strength is developed

With persistence and patience

We reach our goals

We are not meant to have easy lives

We are meant to have meaningful lives

Purposeful lives

Fewer people have the foresight and the determination

To swim against the current

There may be those

Who can’t understand those who swim upriver

They may even make fun of them or feel sorry for them

But the end of a difficult journey

And reaching one’s goal is very satisfying

And it usually means the beginning of another adventure

My cocoon

img_7107

I feel like I’m in a cocoon

It’s very dark in here

There is discomfort and pain

I feel like I’m in a cocoon

Can’t see what’s outside

Can’t see the future

I know I can’t stay here for ever

But how long do I need to wait?

Feeling a little claustrophobic

My world is so small

Will it ever change?

I’ve heard stories about a beautiful world out there

Full of life and colour

Full of bird song and meandering rivers

Is that just a story?

Will I ever get there?

I want to believe the stories of transformation

I want to believe that this small abode

This dark place of limitations and sorrow

Will one day give way to a marvellous world

Black is beautiful

D92DF9B9-5787-4FD7-8EF6-0B857EF25414
The colour of your skin is beautiful

It’s a velvety midnight black

The colour of your skin is beautiful

It shines like the ebony keys on the piano

The colour of your skin is beautiful

It’s the colour of the pupil of the eye

The colour of your skin is beautiful

Sometimes it’s a lovely chocolaty brown

The colour of your skin is beautiful

But real beauty is in your eyes and in your heart

Less than

248F3A56-B163-41C5-B359-3164FCDE4D19

The first time I realized I was black was long ago

Someone had to point that out to me

To tell me that I was different from them

To tell me that I was less than them

And at that moment

My whole world changed

I saw the divide

I realized that  the colour of my skin

Has put me in a different class

A class that is less than

Can you imagine how I felt?

Can you imagine the confusion and the pain?

Can you imagine me realizing

That I would be treated based on the colour of my skin?

And the sad thing is it doesn’t have to be this way

The superiority of one race over another is taught

It’s taught by family and friends

It doesn’t have to be this way
