Writing

Do you know how you anticipate eating a delicious meal that’s waiting for you?

How you can almost taste it?

How you can smell the aroma?

Do you know how you anticipate seeing a friend you haven’t seen for a while?

Basking in their company and catching up?

Do you know how you anticipate entering your warm house

When you have been walking outside in a cold winter night?

Do you know how you look forward to sleeping in your comfortable bed at the end of a long day?

When you can’t keep your eyes open any longer?

That’s how I feel when I haven’t written for a few days

When I know I’ll soon have a chance to put to paper again

My thirst will be quenched

My hunger satisfied

My fatigue will disappear

And joy will take their place

That’s what writing has come to mean to me

Chit chat

IMG_1652

Chit chat

But interesting chit chat

Consequential chit chat

Stimulating chit chat

We talk about art

We talk about books

We talk about projects

We talk about what’s going on in our lives

We talk about the deeper questions we have

We share with each other our goals

Our dreams

Our concerns

We share with each other

Our present, future and past

Lively conversations

Ones which leave me heard and understood

Ones that guide me and help me develop my plans

These are the kind of conversations

I have with my dear friend, Elaheh

They are not just any kind of chit chat

On writing

white flower

I wonder where my feelings would go
If I didn’t write
I think the’d be all bottled up

Emotions swirl in my heart
I feel them strongly most times

They need a release
Somewhere to go
So, as words on paper
They flow

That brings me a sense of peace
I feel less distressed
More at ease

Writing my solace
My intimate friend

One who’s alway ready
To listen

To Facebook or not to Facebook

To Facebook or …

Not to Facebook?

Perhaps the answer is not no or yes

It’s hard to ignore something

So ubiquitous!

Rather how much should I Facebook each day?

To avoid getting addicted or perturbed?

And who should be my ‘friend’

On Facebook?

Who should read every update

And see every photo?

Pictures and words can connect us

Of course

Keep us up to date

And in the know

But should I put all my pictures on Facebook?

I’m impressed when people

Ask for information and pose questions

In their status update

An interesting way to use their network

Of friends

But do we need Facebook for

Relationship updates?

‘In a relationship’ can mean one thing

to me, another to my ‘friend’

And what does ‘it’s complicated’

Actually mean

That one really confuses me!

‘Friending’ is fun

But when do I defriend?

How do I feel if I’m the one being

Defriended?

How often should I change

My profile picture?

In it, should I include my spouse

And my children

Do I have to ‘like’ someone’s comment

So they know it was read?

Do I ‘like’ the whole album

Or just photos taken by a friend?

Facebook like anything else

Can be used in different ways

And these are choices that we need to make!

And for good or for bad

I’m afraid

Facebook is here to stay my friend!

A true friend

EF31580D-5C19-4CF6-A9B8-A039A01C10A4
A friend is someone I can call on day or night
And she will have time for me

A friend is someone who cheers me on when
Things get tough

A friend is someone whose hug gives me energy
To go on

A friend is essential in life
She’ll be my life boat when the waters get rough
She’ll be my shelter when rain pours down
She won’t make my problems go away
But she makes life bearable until I get back
To my place of calm

She won’t make the hurts of the past disappear
But her understanding heart will take the edge off
Those jagged parts of my life

A friend is someone who encourages me to
Fight my own battles, but is there to support me
As I struggle and fight

A true friend is as precious as the air I breathe
More valuable than riches
The sun in my sky!

The colour of sincerity

What is the colour of sincerity?
It’s no colour at all
It’s transparent
Because this is no barrier between the sincere
person and others, none!

To be sincere is to be one’s authentic self
Nothing to hide
Perfections and imperfections clear for all to see

Because after all aren’t we all the sum
of our perfections and imperfections?
We all struggle to live our best lives
Love our fellow man
And contribute to the world

And if my sincerity inspired you dear friend,
I am humbled and thankful!

If that’s OK…

When I arrive in the spirit world
I’d like to hang out with Rumi
Said a friend of mine…
Pick his brain for a while
Bask in his wisdom
Ask a few question and
Just hang out!

When I arrive in the spirit world
I’d like to hang out with Khanum, said I
Thank her for her guidance when I needed it most
Show her my gratitude for being frank with me
And telling me things I sometimes did not want to hear
Or was not aware of

Thank her for her visits to my dreams
When the days were dark
Thank her for opening my heart to poetry
Thank her for showing me the value of art and creativity
Thank her for being there when things did not make sense
When I needed hope, and encouragement
When I needed to know someone was looking out for me

Each dream of her was like a beacon of light
Each one a jewel in the night
Her warm embrace
Her beautiful eyes
Her words of wisdom
These are the things that sustained me
I can never thank her enough

So, dear Khanum
I’d like to hang out with you for a little while
If that’s OK
when I come to the spirit world!

A few of my favourite things…

My favourite things tend to be simple and free
A walk by the water in the spring sun
With a friend or a loved one
Writing my poems in a lovely place
Listening to music of all kinds
Conversations over tea
Spending time in nature
Reading

Aside from these things
What I love to do is to get to know
People of various cultures and travel

Some of this can be done right were I live
The world has come here
Not need to go searching

But traveling is fun and enlightening as well
Being outside one’s comfort zone
Being exposed to the old and new
Seeing things from another point of view!

Our world, so colourful and diverse
So many places one can go
So many cultures to get to know

Traveling does require means
But it doesn’t have to be impossibly expensive

This will be part of my dream in years to come
Traveling, meeting people and delving into
Other cultures and ways of thought

One more thing on my list
Is laughing out loud
At a joke
A gesture
A story
Or anything at all!

Laughter relaxing
Laughter Devine
This does not cost a thing
Only good company
Someone witty and bright

I’m sure I have other favourite things
But for now, I’ll keep it to this list!
