Sunny day

Sunny days are fleeting

The clouds always gather and rain falls

It’s like the days of our lives

We need to enjoy the sunny days

Sit outside

Go for walks

Soak up the sunshine

Because most likely tomorrow it will rain

Challenges will come

Illness may visit

Stressful situations my arise

But like real rain

These days are the days that water the ground

Of our hearts and souls

They may not be our favorite days

But they are necessary for our growth

Without rain, we don’t have lush gardens and meandering rivers

Without rain, we don’t appreciate the sunny days as much

Today is a sunny day

And I’m sitting in the sun

Because

Days go by

And others join the cry of freedom

Even high school students are tired

Of being dictated to

They have arisen to demand their rights

The song of ‘baraye’ is being song everywhere

It has become an anthem of unity

For dancing in the street

For basic human rights

Because of being tired of covering their hair

For man, country, rebuilding

For woman, life and liberty

Because the status quo won’t do

Because of justice, long overdue

Because minorities have rights too

Because they’re tired of disunity

Because of the power of this song

Because of the strength of unity

The dawn is near and they know it

And the sun will shine eventually

My reading chair

61C53807-4CA1-4F47-9C5C-46BFFA1C5E5D

My reading chair

In my reading corner

In my bedroom

Next to the window

Where the sun pours in, in the mornings

My reading chair

A simple Ikea chair

With a footstool

Usually covered with books

Where I do a lot of reading and writing

My reading chair

My oasis

My place of calm

Where I inhale the fragrance

Of other people’s thoughts and feelings

My reading chair

For the last twenty years

And for years to come

Hopefully

Looking for calm

Back and forth
Back and forth
From icon to icon
On my cell phone:
WhatsApp
Instagram
E-mail
News
Facebook
I read
I listen
I contemplate
And repeat…

Too much news?
Too much information?
Too much screen time?
Perhaps

So I put my phone away
Open my notebook
And start to write

Suddenly time slows down
I relax
I don’t have to process so much information
I don’t have to listen to sad news
I can be in my place of calm

The coffee shops are closed
So, the comfortable chair in our bedroom, by the window
Is where I’m writing today
It’s cloudy and
We’re longing for the return of the sun

We’re all doing our best to cope
To stay connected to friends
To avoid getting cabin fever
To do things in new and different ways

Thankful that writing centres me
Thankful that I’m in touch with my friends
Hoping we’ll emerge stronger and wiser
When we’ve made it through these challenging times

So many days

IMG_7283

So many days have I sat in this spot

For a moment of respite from the suffering that enveloped me

So many days, while here, have I wondered how much longer

till I feel alive again

So many days have I mourned the loss of happiness

So many days have I been revived by the kindness of friends

And as I sit in this spot again today

Feeling thankful

The rays of the sun on my face

I count my blessings

And rejoice that I can write again

Building roads on clouds

Generally I like the blue sky
With lots of sun to warm my body and soul
But clouds do come and rain is necessary
To sustain life
Rain also brings the rainbow out

What if instead of sadness at the sight of clouds
I build roads on them and use those roads to
Get to most interesting places

They say if life gives you lemon, make lemonade
So, if life brings gray rainclouds I’ll build roads on them
Roads built from lessons learned
And wisdom gathered so far

And when the sky rains tears of sorrow
I’ll climb the raindrops until I reach the top
Of the clouds and take a look around
Beyond the clouds, there is only sun
The hard work is the climb

But life has provided me with some training
In climbing and building roads so far…
Instead if allowing clouds to bring me down
I’ll climb the rain, and look beyond the clouds
Then build roads and carry on…

Clouds

My sunny day became cloudy when I heard the news
How a few words can change one’s day

Some things seem unjust in this world
And yet, they have a wisdom they say

Doesn’t mean sadness cannot visit once in a while
No amount of faith can stop that
We are human after all

But faith does help us move on
And not get stuck in the valley of sadness for long

Sadness is part of life as clouds belong to the sky
But we can be assured that
Eventually, the sun will come out

Tears

I don’t like crying, nobody does
Emotions are raw
There is grief involved
Or confusion
Or misunderstanding

My eyes sting
My face contorts in ways
That I don’t want

But I’ve noticed that
After the tears, there is a calm
That overcomes me
Some of the sadness leaves

Suddenly the world is not as harsh
Grief is not as backbreaking
And a glimmer of hope appears

The tears have washed
Some of the sadness away
The dam of emotions has opened
And relieved the pressure the was built up

Tears, like many unpleasant things in life
Lead to clear skies and
The return of the sun…

The sound cloud…

Where are you on the sound cloud, I asked a friend
The sound cloud…
The cloud that sings
The cloud that soothes the soul
The cloud that inspires and energises
A magical cloud!

The sound cloud
A place I should visit more often
To feed my soul
To feel joyful!

The sound cloud!
My favourite kind of cloud
No rain comes from this cloud
No gloomy weather accompanies it

This cloud rains emotions
Happy emotions, sad emotions
Genuine emotions, powerful emotions

This cloud does not block the sun
It opens the gates to serenity and calm

The sound cloud
My favourite cloud
I should go there more often
To console my sometimes weary soul

A few of my favourite things…

My favourite things tend to be simple and free
A walk by the water in the spring sun
With a friend or a loved one
Writing my poems in a lovely place
Listening to music of all kinds
Conversations over tea
Spending time in nature
Reading

Aside from these things
What I love to do is to get to know
People of various cultures and travel

Some of this can be done right were I live
The world has come here
Not need to go searching

But traveling is fun and enlightening as well
Being outside one’s comfort zone
Being exposed to the old and new
Seeing things from another point of view!

Our world, so colourful and diverse
So many places one can go
So many cultures to get to know

Traveling does require means
But it doesn’t have to be impossibly expensive

This will be part of my dream in years to come
Traveling, meeting people and delving into
Other cultures and ways of thought

One more thing on my list
Is laughing out loud
At a joke
A gesture
A story
Or anything at all!

Laughter relaxing
Laughter Devine
This does not cost a thing
Only good company
Someone witty and bright

I’m sure I have other favourite things
But for now, I’ll keep it to this list!
