Interesting times

D5846462-2A7F-40EE-A871-26988B15680C

These are interesting times

We have virtual coffee dates

Zoom get togethers

And communicate with others

From the comfort of our homes

These are interesting times

Empty streets

Stores that had to close

Even hairdressers!

I’d say this is an essential service

Especially for the ladies

These are interesting times

Health care workers

Are putting themselves in danger

To save others’ lives

These are interesting times

Families can spend more time together

And we are forced to slow down

These are interesting times

Resilience is needed

Hope is essential

Patience is necessary

And creativity is helpful

These are interesting times

Kind words and deeds go a long way

Prayer and meditation provide a balm

Nature is still our playground

These are interesting times

We can see that the world has become

A global village

Cooperation is needed

And we each need to do our part

What is one to do?

D5846462-2A7F-40EE-A871-26988B15680C
Leaving when not yet done

Little time left for saying good bye

Sudden departure

Unexpected

Leaving a very special spot

But isn’t that how the world works

Our plans are often interrupted

Sometimes we are blindsided

And then we have to say good bye

To things, people or plans close to our hearts

A beautiful building we had built in our mind

Crumbles and falls

And what is one to do but endure the pain

Of separation from a loved one

Or a plan not fulfilled

What is one to do but accept the situation as it is

What is one to do but to be thankful

For what remains

Waiting to grow up

IMG_3734
I sometimes feel like I’m still waiting to grow up

That other people (those who are grown up)

Are doing the important things

I sometimes feel

Oh, in a few years I’ll be better at this

I should keep practicing

I sometimes feel others are far more experienced than me

They have grown up and are the real deal

I sometimes feel like I’m eighteen

I feel insecure

Not ready

Watching others do things more competently than me
But then I realize

This is it!

It’s as good as it’s going to be

That I’ve already done a lot of practicing

I will obviously not be good at many things

Many people will surpass me in different fields

But this is it

I have grown up

Even though I feel like I’m eighteen and still practicing

The strength in our scars

0B52F4EC-FEB3-4A39-A108-4EDE4F1109AC

My friend told me very matter of factly

That she had had a double mastectomy

I had to take a minute to digest what she said

And yet she is the one who had gone through such an invasive surgery

She didn’t seem to feel sorry for herself

She had a serene look on her face

She said some things had actually improved in her home life as a result

I’m sure what she had gone through could not have been easy

Where did her strength come from?

The mystery of sacrifice

We give up something to gain something else

Is it fair?

Perhaps it’s not about fairness

It’s about our response to the challenges of life

If through suffering, we didn’t gain strength

That would be unfair

Our scars are the symbols of our resilience

Our fortitude

Our victory

Labyrinth

img_7115
Life is a labyrinth

We meet people as we navigate it

We walk together for sometime

And for different reasons

We choose different paths

We keep walking down this labyrinth

With its wonders, surprises, challenges and all

And one day we suddenly come across an old friend

That we had walked with long ago

Such reunions are most wonderful

We have each grown in our own ways in the meantime

But when we meet again

We walk together as if we had never parted way

Our part

IMG_4311

Sometimes a handful of people make decisions
That affect millions of people

Wise decisions can be made

Dangerous decisions can be made

Those decisions will be made

One way or another

And we don’t have much influence on them

All we can do is to do our share

To bring a little kindness into the world

To show compassion to one another

And to see all of us as members of one family

Deep roots

The problems in our world have deep but simple roots

The problems, the wars, the conflicts, and the injustices

Are outward signs of a malady that we are afflicted with

And that malady is no other than the lack of recognition

Of the oneness of humanity

Not realizing that we are brothers and sisters all

That no one is better than anyone else, or more worthy

That there is no reason to see anyone as an enemy

That our prosperity is dependent on the prosperity of other nations

That co-operation is better than confrontation

Humanity is very fragmented now

Each part is looking out for its own interests

The fire of trials will eventually meld these factions together

Interdependence

img_5386

Dangerous times

Critical times

Yet snow lays so peacefully

On the tree branches and the hills here

Fire burning in other lands

People fleeing from danger

Yet the trees stand so majestically

In the landscape in front of me

Dishonesty and greed abound

Yet darkness starts to recede here

And daylight is on its way

Contrast

Yet interdependence

Our world is a global village now

Each part hurting affects the others

Have we learned this lesson yet?

People

IMG_4311

“People come and go, that’s life”

Doesn’t mean it’s easy not to miss them

People come and go

Feeling the pain of separation is part of it

People come and go

But a few stay longer

And we create a deeper connection

People come and go

Their memory will always be with us

People come and go

Sometimes we’re the ones who go

People come and go

Can’t stop the movement

People come and go

Others will come and fill their place

People come and go

The circles expands

People come and go

But true friendships will endure

People come and go

Let’s keep those who are here close to us

Our lives

DSC00530

We all have weaknesses

It’s good to acknowledge them

But then we need to move on

And do our best to be better

Our situation may not be

What we want it to be

But since we are here

Let’s make the best of it

Our life may have unfolded

A little differently than we thought

But we should not lose sight

Of the blessings that have come our way

We might not live exactly where we want to live

But we have to look for opportunities where we are

They say, seek and you shall find

Our reality is shaped by our thoughts

Thoughts of thankfulness bring us joy

It’s easy to yearn for what we don’t have

But difficult to be content with what we have

Our happiness is based on our attitude

Cherishing little things,

And not taking what we have for granted

This life is our school

Learning our lessons what we’re here to do
