It’s a new year because we have decided to mark time this way
Otherwise today is not that different from yesterday
Or a day in the last month
The renewal we feel in the New Year
We decide to leave a year behind
And start another one
We decide to leave disappointment and loss behind
We leave behind unhappy memories and the time that was
We start fresh in our minds and hearts
We make new plans for the days to come
We feel rejuvenated and possibility
Is what we see
So, as the New Year begins
Let’s say good bye to what was
And embrace what is
Let’s turn a new page
Let’s look ahead with hope and expectation
Plans are sometimes unplanned for us in our lives
Flexibility and detachment are needed at such times
But when you have your heart set on something
When you have taken time to map things out
Flexibility and detachment are not easy
Maybe that’s why we get many chances to practice
Our lives are a series of letting go
Will it get easier with time?
I’m not sure
Will we keep getting opportunities to hone our skills?
There is no doubt
Do we ever know for sure
What the future holds?
Can we really plan everything out?
Can we see into the future
And guarantee success?
Sometimes what we thought was impossible, happens!
Sometimes what we thought was for sure, disappears!
We can plan
We can calculate
Put in safeguards
Have contingency plans
And yet, the project can fail
The trajectory can change in an instant!
We like to think we are in control
And we are to a certain extent
But as soon as we think we’re totally in control
The unexpected arrives to show us we’re wrong!
Sometimes the best things are unplanned
They just appear in one’s path
Most times intuition is more accurate than intellect
Sometimes the right people appear in our lives
And their influence is life changing, transformative in fact!
Not much planning goes into that!
Only recognition of the blessing
That has been put in our path!
Sometimes things that seem illogical work out
Plans that seem impractical bear fruit
And how is one to know?
I let intuition and prayer be my guide!
