Focus on the light

0a3c3f55-6baa-4200-bb00-d40447c8c3b7
There is pain in the world

There is hurt in the world

There is injustice as plain as daylight to see

There is corruption in the world

There is thirst for power

There is dishonesty

And amid this darkness

What is one to do?

Focus on the light!

Focus on doing what is right

Bring a little joy into someone’s day

Be of service, be honest

Feeling overwhelmed with darkness has no result

Focus on the light

Focus on the light

Lend a hand to someone else

Assuage someone else’s pain

In our world, darkness and light co-exist

Focus on the light

Darkness will one day be gone

Learning from our mistakes

248F3A56-B163-41C5-B359-3164FCDE4D19

Is man incorrigible?

Will we ever learn from our mistakes?

Not always it seems

We make the same mistake over and over again

But why?

Because we have not changed

We see things the same way and behave the same way

Only a shift in our values and behaviour

Will give rise to better decision making

There needs to be a fundamental shift

In how we see ourselves and our place in the planet

We need to put justice before profit

We need to be less greedy and more generous

We need to look upon others as our brothers and sisters

We need to value honesty and trustworthiness

Our values will determine the outcome

Hidden

26DBAF2A-C96C-4EC9-981F-678FC136CA9E

A layer of soft fresh snow covers the ground

The white snowflakes settle on tree branches and shrubs

The scene is dreamy and serene

But what is under the snow?

What has been covered up?

There are other things in life that have a pretty, shiny surfaces

But underneath them there are things that are not beautiful

Wealth and power and fame seem very desirable

But what is below the surface if we look carefully?

What is the cost of these coveted things?

Similarly people’s demure faces and carefully crafted words

With smiles that are not genuine

Can hide a dark reality they don’t want us to see

Their misdeeds are theirs to deal with

But let’s not be fooled by what they profess to be the truth

A new low…

When truth does not matter anymore
And people say whatever they want
When you need to fact-check someone’s assertions
Because we can’t trust them

When dishonesty is rewarded by material gains
When we can’t count on anyone’s words
And they keep denying what can’t be denied

Our society has reached a new low

When we expect politicians to lie
At least sometimes
When accusations fly back and forth
With no way to prove who’s telling the truth

When women are objectified
And those remarks are asked to be excused
As locker-room talk
What kind of example are we setting for the young?

When civility is lost
And words are spoken that make one cringe
When insults take the place of discussion and talk
We know we have reached a new low

Don’t get me wrong
I think there is hope
But, boy does the night seem dark
Before the appearance of the dawn

Speak your mind…

Speak your mind…

Say what you mean
Mean what you say
You’ll be happier
And others as well…

Hiding your emotions
Hiding your concerns
Is not a sign of consideration
And kindness
It’s a form of deceiving others
And yourself

When you pretend to be happy when
Your’s sad
You’re wasting a lot of energy
Keeping up the facade

When someone says something hurtful
And you remain silent
You’re hiding your emotions from them

So, speak your mind
With tact and care
Because you don’t want to hurt others instead

But speak your mind
Live out loud
It will serve you well in the long run…

Heart to heart!

Talking heart to heart!
Listening, really listening to someone else!
We don’t do it often enough
Small talk takes up a lot of our time
Real concerns and worries
Are buried deep inside

Then once in a while
We open our heart to someone else
And talk about what really matters

That requires trust
And being able to be vulnerable
Letting our guard down

It seems it’s hard to be our real selves most of the time
Instead we hide behind a beautiful smiling facade
Instead we put on the “All is OK” mask
Instead we bury what really matters deep down

But then there are those rare moments of honesty
Of being our authentic selves
When pretense disappears
When we speak from the heart
When we feel in close connection with another soul
The barriers having come down

Those moments are precious
Those are the conversations that heal us
Change us, and make us feel really alive!
