Doodling and dawdling
Writing with nothing specific in mind
Just letting my mind explore
And go where it wants
A waste of time?
On the contrary
Our minds need play time
Down time
Creative time
When the results don’t matter
And are not judged
It’s like dancing freely
Like no one is watching
Very liberating
Rejuvenating
And exhilarating
At the same time
So, I let my pen
Move across the page
With no agenda in mind
This is time for me to
Nurture that part of me
That used to get neglected
And left out

The slow lane…

If you can go 70 miles an hour all the time
Please do!
Don’t mind me in the slow lane!

I’ve gotten to know myself
I’m a sprinter
For a while I can enjoy the fast lane
And then I need to take a break

I used to push myself too much a lot of the time
Not listen to the “I’m tired” signals!
Compare myself to others all the time
Crash and burn after a while

And truth be told
Sometimes, I still do!

But I try to pace myself
No, I won’t be everywhere all the time
I need time to reflect as well
I need time to write and process my thoughts

So, it will be the slow lane sometimes
The no-rush lane
The smell-the-roses lane
The relax and play lane

So my mind and body can recuperate
And get ready for the fast lane!

Play time!

Play time is necessary for creativity to thrive!
And what’s play time?
Time spent on things we want to do
Rather than things we should do!

Things that bring us pleasure
Make us laugh
Make us relax!

A walk in the park
Reading a good book
Having a cup of coffee with a friend
Some art activity we enjoy
A day at the spa
Or going for a massage
Playing cards

This kind of down-time
Energizing time
Time to nurture our inner child
Time to have fun
Time to do what we want
Is necessary if we want to produce
And be useful and helpful to others
The rest of the time

We need to recharge our batteries
In order to function well
And recharging our batteries involves
Doing activities that bring us joy and delight!

It can wait!

Today
I don’t care what’s on my to-do list
Today
The phone calls can wait
Today
The errands and the chores
The decisions that need to be made
The bills that need to be paid
The laundry that needs to be done
Can wait
It has to wait
If I want to keep my sanity
It has to wait
Because I need a break
It has to wait
Because I’m not a machine
It has to wait
Or I will break!

Today I give myself permission
To do the things I love!
Today I allow myself
To be a child at heart!

Today
Is my day of rest
Today
I take responsibility for my health
Today
I’ll put the lessons I’ve learned into use
And I won’t wait till it’s too late
Today
I choose to play
So tomorrow I can get back to work again!

When I retire!

When I retire, I’d like a plane
I’d like to travel and go insane!
Eat breakfast in Paris, dinner in Spain!
Fly like a bird, touch the clouds, release the pain!
Roam the sky, reach for the sun, be the plane!
Float like a kite, forget my fright, play a game!

Walk the planets, touch the moon, save the day!
Play with star dust, reach for trust, will you play?
Shop in Pluto, dance on the moon, is that sane?
Run all day, fly all night, come my way!
Talk all day, listen all night, will you stay?
I’d like to run, run, run, fly so high, every day!

p.s. Actually, I can’t wait till I retire, I’d like to do all this now! 🙂
