A childish game

We bomb you

You bomb us

We bomb you again with more bombs

You try to catch up with us

It looks like a silly childish game

With expensive explosives

And dire consequences

Is this how mature people solve problems?

Is death and destruction what brings us peace?

I read the news

It’s been three years

What do they think a few more years will do

Besides adding to the carnage of war?

We are ‘grown up’ people

Playing a most dangerous and devastating game

The real game of war

Is this peace?

The dust has settled

The missiles have been silenced

People are going back to work

But is there peace?

Peace is not the absence of war

Peace is serenity in people’s hearts

Peace is justice in the land

Peace is love for your fellow man

I pray for the day when won’t need spies

I pray for the day when negotiations will solve the problems that arise

I pray for the day of equality

When demonstrators won’t have to die in the streets

Peace is not the absence of war

Peace is love in our hearts

No internet

No internet?
No phone calls?
What is this?
1985?
When communication was at a turtle’s pace
When we wrote letters and waited
Waited for many days before we received an answer
And in between
Radio silence
Except for the occasional phone call
But now phones don’t work either
What are we supposed to do to communicate?
We live in the age of instant communication
Our lives are built around it
Deprivation is like tying one’s hands behind one’s back
This is unacceptable and unfair
Only fearful people would do that
Those who fear for their very existence
I hope these days will be over soon
And we’ll be in touch with each other as we used to be

War in Iran

Destruction

Death and destruction

Worry and consternation

No news from family

Friends in danger

These are dark days

And as much as I dislike this situation

I remain hopeful

That the sacrifices people are making

Will bear fruit

It’s hard to imagine now

But change happens suddenly

And without much notice

The Berlin Wall falls

The Soviet Union shatters

All in the blink of an eye

We pray for better days

For peace and prosperity

For justice and unity

There is a light at the end of the tunnel

No matter how dim

May these days of war

End as quickly as they started

War in Iran

Still at war

I see a street in ruins

Buildings made to look like rubbles from bombing

Two firefighters are holding up an injured woman on either side

Her arm in their arms, helping her walk

What could justify such a scene?

What causes the leaders of a country

To attack civilians in a war?

Why do we still have wars anyway?

Why does one country need to conquer another one?

Why should one country be threatened by another one?

Why should the alliances not be international?

Why do we still have war?

Dichotomies

People are dying in Ukraine

And we worry about our retirement fund balance decreasing

Buildings and cities are being destroyed

And we plan our summer vacations

Refugees arrive from a ravaged land

And we buy our spring wardrobe

There is no electricity or water in some homes

And we complain about our cold springs

The pain of one should be the pain of all

We should not get numb to the images on our TV’s

There is a lot of misery in our world

The least we can do is be the cause of peace of harmony

Ashen faces

img_7357

Death and destruction

Ashen faces

Bombed out buildings

Fear and consternation

Tanks and ammunition

Civilians and soldiers

Fighting, resisting

Dying and getting injured

And why?

To conquer a free country

To show one’s power

To extend one’s territory

The world has arisen against this atrocity

Countries have imposed sanctions

Are sending armaments

Condemn the violence

Watch in horror

As their fellow men suffer and die

The near future is dark

The sky is darkened by billowing smoke

The land is scorched

People are victims of aggression

But the world is united

Countries are doing what they can

To end this war

To let people live freely in their own country

To punish the aggressor

The distant future is bright

Those who want to start a war

Will know the world will be united against them

Wars won’t start so easily

We will be one step closer to peace

But in the meantime

Death and destruction

Ashen faces

Bombed out buildings

What we see

And people suffer

Grief

DSC00599
Lives lost

Games played

Risks taken

Show of force

Missiles fired

Human error

Devastation

Lives lost

Youthful lives taken away

Children’s lives stolen

Families mourn

A single red shoe

A reminder of the passengers onthe plane

The cockpit riddled with shrapnel pieces

Evidence of the missile fired

Countrymen on both sides of the Atlantic weep

They light candles

And talk about their friends and family

People who had plans for their lives

There is also anger

Anger at incompetence

A few decisions

Having taken these innocent lives

Anger that we still use war

To problem solve

We play with people’s lives

As if they are dispensable

Lives lost

Grief abounds

I don’t think time will heal these wounds

Deep roots

The problems in our world have deep but simple roots

The problems, the wars, the conflicts, and the injustices

Are outward signs of a malady that we are afflicted with

And that malady is no other than the lack of recognition

Of the oneness of humanity

Not realizing that we are brothers and sisters all

That no one is better than anyone else, or more worthy

That there is no reason to see anyone as an enemy

That our prosperity is dependent on the prosperity of other nations

That co-operation is better than confrontation

Humanity is very fragmented now

Each part is looking out for its own interests

The fire of trials will eventually meld these factions together

From mundane to philosophical

The pizza dough instruction said
Cook at 450 degrees
I suggested 425!
Albert asked why?

Why do you question 450?
Don’t you think they gave this some thought?
Don’t you think they know what
They are talking about?

Yes, but I think 425 will do the job!

Why? How does this make sense?

Why should I make sense, said I!
There are lots of things that don’t make sense
Why should this one?

It doesn’t make sense when close friends
Move far away
It doesn’t make sense that some people
Throw away food while others starve!
It doesn’t make sense that we try to
Solve our problems with war!
That we create safety by having more guns!

It doesn’t make sense that girls are not treated right
They can’t get the education they want
They are sold and bought!

I know this is heavy stuff
But these things don’t make sense either
Why should I?
