Looking ahead

AA9CF285-9C3A-4E37-9384-DCE845BAD2D3

It is a grey fall day

The trees are wearing their yellow frocks

Some are not wearing clothes any longer

They must be shivering in the autumn cold

As I look at our back yard

And contemplate this fall day

I’m transported to next spring

when flowers will blossom again

When the trees will wear their green garb

When the butterflies will look for beautiful flowers to hover around

When the sun will shine bright

And then I think to myself

We have to go through winter first

Days will become darker and colder

Snow will cover the ground

Nothing will seem to be alive any longer

The north wind will blow

And a chill will descend on the land

But those dreary days will pass

And spring will arrive

And we can celebrate the return of joy

We can dance in the streets

We can sing at the top of our lungs

Because it will have been a long winter

And a very well deserved spring

Fall is here

Fall is here

the carefree days of wearing sandals and dresses are gone

The scarves can come out

The verdure of the trees a waining

The magical colors of fall arrive

We will be indoors more

But we should not close our hearts

To kindness

To gentleness

To generosity

To love

Each season has its own beauty and prepares us for the one to come

Seasons change

Life goes on

And life is beautiful

If we try to bring some sunshine into someone else’s life

Dark clouds

img_7357

The cold and damp winds of fall are blowing

I feel the cold in my bones

The dark clouds are shedding tears of sorrow

The exuberance of summer is gone

The world seems unfair sometimes

Goodness is not returned with good

Enmity seems to have the upper hand

As a pandemic ravages the world

I still believe in goodness

I think the good will be victorious

Sometimes it doesn’t look like that

But there is more to our lives than what we see

Goodness resides in the heart

It will be with us forever

Goodness perfumes the world

And cheers other people’s hearts

Injustice is like a cold dark night

But this dark night will eventually give way to dawn

Injustice can’t take goodness away

Injustice is due to the absence of love

Dedicated to the Baha’is of Iran

Fall carpet

DB1D173B-2DAE-42DC-AF61-9054E7E5DEF6.jpegThe trees have spread their fall carpet under them

They are inviting us to sit with them for a while

Look at the beauty of nature and

The amazing colors, a feast for the eyes

They say let’s look back at the summer

What did you enjoy?

What was hard?

They say let’s look ahead to winter

The season of hibernation

We can still do a lot in those cold months

They say let’s think about right now

The blessings we have

How far we’ve come And then they thank us for visiting them

And staying for a while

Shedding the layers

8A258FC4-0767-4CE9-8BA8-862B1D1E4C21

They are slowly shedding the layers

They put on during the spring and summer months

Some have their colorful garb on

But some branches are naked

Vulnerable

Unable to hide

Unable to pretend

They feel a little shy

On plain view for all to see

And yet, after a while

They start to enjoy their newfound freedom

Freedom from layers of pretense

They feel lighter, more genuine

Vulnerability and freedom to be oneself

Go hand in hand

The festival

IMG_7201

It is the season of fall

When the trees put on their colorful garb

Ready for the festival that arrives once a year

Orange, yellow, red and auburn

Magenta, purple and brown

The colors we see

Evidences of summer are still there

But we can also see the season changing

The fall

03F87227-DDB0-4AC5-96CA-28729BE8C84D

If someone’s words hurt me

I’m supposed to forgive them instantly

My heart should supposedly

Not be offended by anyone

But these are very high ideals

And not easy to live by

Sometimes it’s good to receive a dose of humility

Sometimes it’s good to come back down to earth

There is a freedom in flying high

But you can also fall

Autumn leaves

The colorful leaves of fall nestle against the grey stones for shelter
For warmth

They huddle and
Keep each other warm
Chit chatting among themselves
About their transition
The changes to come
showing off their beautiful costumes while they still can

At the ball

IMG_7201

Clad in their golden-orange gowns
They are at a most beautiful ball
Music playing
A gentle breeze moving their
Shimmering attire
And creating rustling sounds

They know the ball will end soon
And they will have to wait another year
Before they call return to this festivity
So they savour these last moments of bliss
As they sway to the mesmerising music

Recharge

We charge our phone battery diligently
But sometimes we forget to recharge our own!

I guess the phone batter warns us
50%… 40%… 25%…
Whereas our mental and emotional battery
Does not have a gauge
Often we wait till it’s too late…

In absence of a gauge
And because we often don’t pay attention
To the signs of tiredness and fatigue
It’s best to recharge regularly, every day
And not wait

Sometimes we feel guilty
Paying attention to our own needs
It feels selfish
But if we don’t take care of ourselves and crash
No one will be better off

If we don’t take care of ourselves
We may feel resentful
And do things half-heartedly
Whereas when our batteries are full
What we do will be done whole heartedly

In a world that seems to be spinning
Faster and faster
Slowing down and paying attention to
What gives us energy
Is harder than before

I’ve learned these lessons the hard way
I’ve ran out of battery many times
But sometimes it takes a fall
To make us pay attention to the path we’re on!
