My place of calm

Where do you go when you want to get away from it all?
Where do you go when you need a break?
Where do you go when you feel rushed?

Or feel out of sorts somehow?

My refuge is my writing spot
Which happens to be in a coffee shop
I sit in the window, take my time
Read, contemplate and write

Here, no one wants anything from me
Here, I’’m not responsible for anything
I don’’t see the dishes that need to be done
Or the bills and forms that must be filled out

This is my oasis, my place of calm
My pen gives me wings to fly
With it I can go anywhere
Stay close or go far away

With it I can dream or problem solve
I can try to figure things out
With it, I can colour my world
With vibrant colours, orange and gold

Thankful for this short respite
I’’m then ready to go on
My responsibilities are waiting for me
But so is my oasis

One poem a day!

One poem a day
Keeps the doctor away
One poem a day
Helps me exhale

Writing is a form of therapy
Or maybe over time
It has become a part of me

Thoughts and ideas
Whirl in my head
They bounce around
I examine them

Once they are on paper
I feel relaxed
I’’ve said my piece
I’’ve had my chance

Water that flows
Stays clear and bright
Words are like water
The river, my mind

The joy that writing
Brings me
Is indescribable
Once my thoughts and feelings
Take the shape of words
On paper
My spirit rejoices
My heart smiles
The clouds disappear
The sun shines

What is this magic
I ask myself
But there is no answer
To this question
Always curious
I want to know
But the answer to some questions
I will never know

Once again I try to let go
Of the questions
That I pose
Instead I’ll be thankful
For this gift
Instead I’ll be grateful
For this joy!
